We really enjoyed reading this article. Working at the local high school I hear kids use this word alot. It has always bothered me but now I am even that much more sensitive to it since Chloe was born. I often wonder how I would feel or react if someone called her this out in public. I think that if you have people in your life that you truly love then it is easier to view others with more kindness and understanding. I just want to stop students and ask them what they would do if they have children that have special needs and how do they think they would feel if their child was sad and felt left out. It does not make it easier but I do think people who use these words or any hurtful words truly do not know what true love is. I never truly understood what being a parent was until my first daughter was born. I thought I did but it is even better than I expected. When I woked at a nursing home I thought about my kids being old and hoped someone would realize how wonderful they were and take the best care of them for me. When I work with kids at school I remind myself how important it is to do the best I can for them because as a parent I know I would want someone to do the same. Looking through the eyes of a parent helps me be more patient and understanding.
