At the recent Easter Seals gala, a live auction was the highlight of the evening. We were all there, and since it was getting late and Reid and Ava were maxing out on all of the action, we decided to watch the first item on the block get sold – a white rocking horse – and then head home. The final bidder paid $1,000 for the rocker. We noticed that Sunny and Rob, a couple from our church, bought it, which was a show of tremendous generosity and support. As we were packing up our stuff, Sunny approached me. I thanked her for their donation for the rocking horse and then nearly lost it when she told me, “We bought it for Ava.”
It seems like when you least expect it, people do the most amazing things. And just when it seems like the world is in a state of conflict, something like this happens. Being open to possibilities, to the unexpected, to simple beauty…now that’s an amazing thing, too.
